Should I upgrade?

Below are the specs to my macbook pro and current version of the OS. I've been thinking about upgrading my OS but wondering if this will slow down my system.

The only reason why I am considering to upgrade is because I want to purchase the Roxio Toast 10 Titanium and noticed its requires 10.5. Is it worth me to upgrade? If so how do I go about...I'm new to the macworld so I assume just go to the app store and ask for the cds to upgrade to the latest version? Anything else I should know?

System Version: Mac OS X 10.4.11 (8S2167)
Kernel Version: Darwin 8.11.1
Boot Volume: Macintosh HD

Capacity is 111.47 GB
Available 65.88 GB

Model Name: MacBook Pro 15"
Model Identifier: MacBookPro2,2
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
Memory: 1 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz
Boot ROM Version: MBP22.00A5.B07

If you wait Snow Leopard should be available sometime in September, and you can just upgrade to that and skip Leopard all together.

Snow leopard is supposed to make things faster and your macbook pro is plenty powerful for snow leopard so I would wait until september and then upgrade.

Upgrading RAM is a good idea, but it isn't necessary as you can get away with only 1 gig. Here are the system requirements for snow leopard...

I've been running SL 10A421 on 1GB ram with my Mini, and although now I'm sticking with Leopard on it trust me, it isnt fun with just 1GB.

I never said it was, I am just saying you can and it does meet the system requirements. Depending on what you are doing, it may not make sense to upgrade your RAM if all you do is surf the internet a little and check email.

Throw 2 or 3 GBs of RAM in there and Leopard (and therefore Snow Leopard) will run fine and dandy. RAM is very very cheap nowadays so you might as well even if you don't upgrade the OS.
