Do you mean the alarm clock? Uh, there isn't a to silence and alarm, because then it wouldn't be an alarm. You can set the sound to None, though.

I see your point, however I have tons of alarms on both my phone and computer. To set an alarm to " no alarm at all" is not a solution for me.

On my computer, when I set it to "mute" it does just that.

Alarm or not. I believe Silent should mean just that. Sort of an "All else" scenario.

Okay, so imagine every single alarm you have set doesn't go off for some reason...oh crap that ringer switch, now I'm late for work, oops, I'm supposed to pick up my kid from school an hour ago. Lol. Whatever, you get the idea. (I had a much more convincing argument than this but it's totally slipped my mind...)

Good point, but I think I would rather not bet against myself. If I made a mistake and forgot to turn on my silent switch , well, that would be MY mistake to be made by ME! For my device to second guess my intentions and say " hey ...you really DIDN'T want to silence me because you are not smart enough to factor in all the variables" .... Is unacceptable.

What I am really looking for with this thread is somebody with a special trick up the sleeve

You can turn the volume all the way down, then flip the silent switch. THe alarm will still go off (and will vibrate if you have it set that way), but it should be quiet enough in your pocket/purse/whatever that no one will hear it.

So simple! I am going to try that now.

Thank you!

EDIT --- This works Just Fine.

Although USMac came up with a good solution , it still makes me think the "Silent Switch " needs more thought

It isn't a silence switch, it is a "disable alerts" switch, not alarms. You could just turn the volume down on the phone do mute your alarms.

Apple describes it as RING/SILENT switch. That implies phone related sounds are silenced (text and ringtones).

I think they've done a great job with the switch. I think it should allow alarms to sound. It still silences the iCal alarms. I really like that the SDK allows game music to silence off this switch.
