[Poll] Have you or are you planning on downgrading to 10.5?

For me and my Summer 2009 MacBook Pro, Snow Leopard has been nothing but a headache from the day it was installed.

Tonnes of application crashes (Safari, Preview, Numbers, Pages, Handbrake, Mail etc. etc.) which has also resulted in some work being lost, wifi drops, system crashes, freezes, spinning beachballs and no noticeable increase in speed or performance to make up for it has made me yearn for good old stable Leopard.

So I've downgraded and my Mac feels safe and steady once again!

What about you? Are you happy with SL? Is it good for you or are you just going to stick with it through this tricky time?

Overall, I've had zero problems and wouldn't think of downgrading. SL has been an exceedingly smooth upgrade and my apps work as I had hoped.

no major issues on multiple installs, glad i upgraded. The performance difference in mail and some of the other apps is well worth it.

Am assuming you did an Archive & Install of Snow Leopard before ditching it for Leopard? :S

The only annoyance I have right now is beach balls in Safari. With Leopard, Safari felt much more smooth and responsive. With SL, it feels like there's a delay when I click on a link or menu item which usually occurs in the beach ball. It hasn't crashed which is a good thing so I hope future updates will tweak it to Leopard standards.

I rolled back both my Macs to 10.5. Mainly due to the breaking of TM. The inability to backup any more was the final straw after experiencing beach balls in Safari and the corruption of accounts more than once.

Once I see fixes out for these issues, I will go back to SL.

On my MacBook it runs ok, on my MacMini. Ugh - It's like watching a perfectly good computer eat itself from the inside out.

Nothing but problems since the install. I even did a fresh clean wipe and reload. Most of my apps are crashing now and as soon Rosetta kicks in - oh my lord... it's unbearable.

I'm just gonna copy my files over to the backup drive, nuke it and reinstall 10.5 - never had one problem with it.

Even running the beta of SL wasn't this painful.

When i got my copy i erased the entire disk, BUT when i needed to start editing film for a friend i was unable to do this in 10.6 imovie wasn't importing clips properly they were coming in as widescreen even though it was set as 4:3 and it crashed a couple of times so i had to then dual boot with 10.5.8 to complete the task. I still have the dual boot option there just in case.

But i am in SL 99% of the time.

Had a couple of Parallels/CrossOver-related kernel panics, most likely because I've tried to be too clever for my own good and run in 64bit. I'm not eager to reinstall 10.5, but if all else fails I'll do so. Once re-installed, will I be able to restore the mail/photographs directories from my time-machine backup?

My problems have been minor. I tried several methods to install, but I seem to have gotten the best result when I erased the drive first but then used my clone of 10.5.8 as the source for all of my apps and data. Some of the things I expected to be trouble, like Creative Suite, have been fine.

Quicksilver (which I love) is buggy now, so I hope a replacement becomes available soon.

And I'm keeping my clone for a while, since not quite everything works perfectly. I've got enough space on one external to keep a clone of both 10.5.8 and 10.6.1 in separate partitions. But I'm sticking with SL. It's the future, obviously.

I've been on 10.5 for two days now and I can honestly say that I don't see any negatives. It's just as fast as it was and hasn't crashed once.

Actually no, I did an erase and install (you have to, SL won't let you downgrade without erasing). If you mean when I first installed SL, I did a clean re-install of 10.5 then installed 10.6 in the hope of avoiding all these issues!

I could kind of understand having issues if I had a 3yr old Mac, or it was stuffed with pirated software, or I used it to watch tonnes of malware-laden porn. But it's just a straight forward, brand-new Mac with legit software.

Have you installed the latest version (Beta56a7 / build 3825)?

I've had a few minor issues, but wouldn't think of downgrading. I can live with the occasional crash or weird bug.

I love Snow Leopard, I boot up (I think) and shut down faster, restarting/sleeping + waking from sleep is faster I think.

My apps might be a bit faster, few graphical glitches, this is with an upgrade on a 6 month old Mac Pro.

Meh CS4 crashes almost every time I close it... bit weird.

Go Snowy! I'll do a clean install when I get my Intel X25-M G2 160GB

Kind Regards

Want to downgrade but can't: SL messed up TM connection

I am not happy with SL. Since SL TM can't connect to its backup disk anymore, where my 10.5.8 backup resides. It gives a 109 error (can't connect to sparsebundle...)
If i could i would downgrade. SL should not have been released. For me it was one of the most buggy updates ever

If I could wind back time and not bother with SL all together - I would. But I can't be bothered to do a clean reinstall again.

Yes, I have. But despite my best effort to delete all traces of QS, preferences seem to persist, and more importantly, it's not reindexing the catalog, so if I move anything or go anyplace new, it's not working. I don't want to hijack this thread, so I guess I'd better start my own.

No problem at all on my early '08 MBP. Haven't even had any of the documented issues with Adobe CS3.
