Even though I dislike Microsoft, I am actually excited to see what they are coming out with.

I wouldn't call Pure and Turtle "gorgeous." Yet more black plastic oval phones with a sliding keyboards ... I'm not sure what the attraction is.

And I don't understand why every time the Zune is mentioned, the OLED display is trumpeted like it's the holy grail for portable devices.

I too have no idea what the attraction of these products can possibly be. I guess "competition is good" and all of that, but are these devices really competition for anything? More vapor and FUD from Redmond, and, of course, certain segments of the media just eat it up.

OLED is buzzword-compliant, that's for sure. Does it deliver any real world benefits that aren't outweighed by its drawbacks? Not really.

Overall, the Zune HD isn't too shabby. But good enough to make a difference for Microsoft? I don't think so.

What's the big deal with OLED?! It looks good as long as you view it indoors. I'd rather take the power loss that comes with the iPod's display because you can see it clearly anywhere.

Will someone explain what the benefit is of viewing HD on a screen as small as an iPod or Zune? I'd guess the image can't be any better at that scale than NTSC.
