How to make sure I use N-speed for wireless?
I recently installed a new wireless router (Linksys 320N) but I got a feeling that my network speeds (especially copying files to/from my NAS) isn't exactly faster. It is very fast using Gigabit Ethernet but not so with wifi (very slow in fact, surfing is ok).
Is there a way to check if I'm using N-speeds for wifi? |

You can open the Network Utility application and choose the Airport network interface in the list. It should list the 'Link Speed'.
Also Option or ALT click the airport icon in the menu bar and it should give you additional wireless information. EDIT: Sorry I am assuming you are using Snow Leopard. Although Network Utility is part of Leopard also. |

Make sure there are no 11b/g devices also using the router.

My itouch and PS3 are also using the router, and those are not N speed. I can setup my router to only use N-speeds but then my PS3/iTouch won't be able to use wifi. Network utility says:
144 MBit/sec Wireless Network Adaptor (802.11a/b/g/n) RSSI -67 Transmit Rate 65 MCS Index 5 PHY Mode: 802.11n |
