Apple lost my Apple ID

Here is my problem. I have several great albums purchased under an Apple ID that apparently doesn't exist anymore. When I try to play the songs, iTunes 9.0.1 asks for my password associated with my former Apple ID. Applying the password I used to use does not work. So, I tried to the 'forgot password' function and the Apple store says they cannot find any record of my former Apple ID. I sure want to listen to my Bob Dylan, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, and even good old Steven Wright CDs.

What can I do?
