Is one able to find out their social security number by going to a town hall?

Hey all.

Im aiming for a job at stop and shop, and im at their website trying to fill out an application to bag groceries. I know everyone should know there number off the top of their head, but this is gonna be my first job; and the first time i have to use my SSN. So just wondering if you are able to find your number at your local town hall, and if not, where else should i look to find my number?

Thanks in advance.

Town hall isn't the place to get it, you need to contact the Social Security office. You'll need your birth certificate.

As Tomorrow has indicated, you need your Birth Cert. to get a reissuance of your SSN/ SS card.

If your parents have claimed you as a dependent on their taxes, they would have entered your SSN into the form the filed. Surely they can look up last year's 1040?

This would be the easiest. Town hall won't have it. As others have said you would have to contact your local Social Security office.

If you're having problems getting your birth certificate contact the hospital where you were born. You should be able to order a copy from them.

Actually, you get those from the county you were born in, not the hospital.

can't you get your SSN from your school file? they should have a birth certificate and your SSN i guess. that would be the fastest way.

maybe you shouldn't try to find your SSN but rather more caring and responsible parents......

First they lose all your documents… and now your mother tells you that to find your birth certificate is a problem?
Grief. If my parents acted like that when I was trying to make a start in life I'd have been very worried and gone to the authorities and gotten copies of my own documents…

Thats pretty harsh and unecessary. You cant choose your parents, and it isnt exactly right to reprimand them for losing documents. We've all done it. Just some of us use a safe or a lockbox. Maybe they have it and just dont have the time to find it.

Why must every thread devolve into this? He asked for a way to find out his SSN, not how to find different parents.

you seem to miss the sarcasm in the post. i also suggested a hopefully fast way to get the info he needs. but i agree, it was a joke and I apologize for being insensitive. however his parents should show a bit more effort to help him getting his documents.

Ah, yes, you are very right in the bolded statements. And yes, you did help.

Its just a lot of threads turn into statements like yours, without sarcasm. Yours was harder to see. My mistake.
