How to organize higher resolution videos in iTunes?

Hello. I'm looking for a solution to the problem of requiring 2 copies of each video file: one for ipod and one at full resolution. I run into this problem with any media added from outside of itunes that is beyond the 640x480 limit. How do you all deal with this? Is there a video management software to use specifically for full-res movies, leaving itunes only to sync with an ipod / iphone? Separate playlists / libraries maybe? Keep those large videos outside of itunes and only access through finder? I don't know, it all seems so clunky. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
