Mighty Mouse scroll ball doesnt scroll down
I have a mighty mouse. It only scrolls up, left and right on a page but not down.
It's really frustrating...I use it every day...Please help. Thanks in advance, - GC |

Looks like you have the common problem of a "dirty" scroll ball. Sometimes minute amounts of debris can collect on the scroll ball's sensor and render it unable to receive software response.
For a simple cleaning, take a piece of fabric and vigorously rub it on the scroll ball for about 30 seconds. If that doesn't work, you will have to disassemble it and clean it manually, as seen here

I used to have that problem quite frequently, hold the mouse upside down and rub an eye glass cloth back and forth across the ball, it worked for me, lightly dampen the cloth if that doesnt work. hope this helps

I have had this issue many times. Tried computer wipes, spirits etc which worked with various levels of success. By far the most effective, and conveniently the most simple is to turn the mouse upside down and vigourously roll the ball over a piece of white paper.

I use a paper towel dampened to wet with rubbing alcohol. Rub it all around with the wet part then immediately turn towel around to a dry part and rub again rolling the ball up, down and side to side.
The Apple mouse works nice when it is working, just wish it was easier to take apart for a thorough cleaning. OH Well

That method eventually stops working, and it will only scroll up, lol. I'm curious about trying the new mouse if I don't have to deal with the ball getting dirty.

I had the same problem, only rolling mine around didn't fix it. I eventually took it apart, cleaned out the lint, and tried to put it back perfectly together. It turned out looking a little janky, but worked for a year. One day I got into a fixit mood and tried to superglue the bottom back together and completely killed the click (it was hard to push down). So just don't try. I'm getting the new mouse for xmas.
