I must have missed the day in my logic class when we learned that the fact that something is possible makes it certain.

God, it's so sad watching these Apple fanboys in their steadfast denial. It's like, all these green lights are going off in the business world that would point to a Verizon iPhone, but they keep cowering in fear and labeling everything "a stupid rumor!"
It's almost sad... Quote:
LOOK AT WHAT WEBSITE YOU'RE ON. Sorry for the caps but I'm so frustrated by this rebuttal. YOU ARE ON MACRUMORS, not MACFACTS.com. 90% of the front page "news" items on Macrumors are baseless rumors that are simply started from word of mouth. Just because THIS particular rumor hints at your precious Apple iPhone being supported on another network, doesn't mean this rumor has ANY less merit than all the other ones you guys celebrate and salivate over. Secondly, insults are against the rules of the forum ... please refrain, and have a look at the Forum Rules. Finally, the OP cited the creation of the chip as being "Proof that iPhone is coming to Verizon", which would be a good contribution to "MacFacts.com", ( which happens to be a fictionalized site I created as a joke for this site ). The creation of the chip is not proof that the iPhone is coming to Verizon ( Eventhough I personally believe the iPhone will eventually be on Verizon ). So calm down, and stop being so hostile. Cause arguing on the internet is just like competing in the Special Olympics, whether you win or lose ... you're still a retard.

Forgive me if I think your reaction far more suggestive of immaturity than my observation that elicited it. ETA: Like xbuddycorex, I, too, think it likely the iPhone will eventually be available on Verizon. But I don't think that this chip's existence proves anything of the kind.

Let's review a few additional reasons why an iPhone may come to Verizon.
1) The chipset makes the phone technically possible. CDMA may be a dying standard, but it will be 5 years before it is completely replaced with the next generation standard. Apple will release 5 more iPhones if it follows the yearly update cycle so it stands to reason a CDMA compatible phone is at least somewhat likely. 2) Verizon has near 80 million subscribers. If 1 in 40 were to buy the iPhone at approximately $599 ($199 paid by customer with $399 added by subsidy), it would calculate to be approximately $1.2 billion for Apple. It is hard to ignore numbers like that and that is only in the United States. South Korea, New Zealand, Canada, and the US all have active CDMA networks for Apple to sell the phone for. Let's not forget that each of these countries has citizens who are able to afford the iPhone. 3) Apple does what is best for its profit margin. Steve Jobs may be many things, but he isn't going to let a bit of Verizon advertising get in the way of selling billions of dollars in iPhones. The iPod is dying out and the way forward is integrated devices like the iPhone. Don't forget they didn't sell hundreds of millions of iPods by keeping them closely tied to Macs. |

IMO.... iPhone has a better chance of seeing Sprint. Apple can get their own way much easier with them and Sprint would have much more to gain than Verizon. |

I'm not going to perpetuate the discussion anymore after this comment. It doesn't matter that it's not directed at him. Your comment is still offensive and tasteless. Substitute your use of "retard" with any ethnicity, race, religion and it's no different. You could easily get your point across without resorting to sophmoric humor.

what awesome discussion we have going on here.
being as i dont live in the USA it doesnt bother me whether or not the iphone goes to verizon, how ever i do agree that apple will want to maximize it's $$$ sales on the iphone. its only natural that a company wants to make more money but when and how they do it time will only tell. |

The thread title is misleading. It should be "Evidence that the iPhone could work on Verizon in the future".
Also, I don't think Verizon can bash the iPhone and then pick up the iPhone in a few months. Hahaha. What would people think of Verizon if they did that? |
