Putting my mac's monitor output to my TV

Is this possible to do? I think it would be kind of neat to play a movie or a game on my computer, but have the movie/game come from the TV instead, so I can sit or lay on the floor rather than in front of my computer screen in the chair.

Also if I had friends over, it would be easier to sit in front of the TV rather than gathering around my computer desk.

EDIT: I'm using an iMac and I have an RCA TV, which is all I know about it

is it an HD tv? what kind of inputs do you have?

how old is the iMac? they've had video out for about 2 years.
look at the back of the iMac, if you have video out there will be a port labeled with a picture that is a box with lines on either side of it

if the port looks like it has teeth in it, it's mini-DVI
it the piece in the middle is flat, it's mini-displayport

chances are you can do it. you'll just need to get an adapter that will go to your TV.
