If yes, what was it and how big was the reward?

I once heard a story of an IBM employee receiving a check for $400,000 just because he found an unnecessary small part inside IBM PC that can be omitted. I heard the story in early 90's directly from a formal IBM employee who actually saw the guy receiving the $400K check.

No, I have actually been punished for innovation in the form of layoffs, & 1/4 of the hours I used to work

I had an idea to quote a few thousand dollars worth of computers today and I was rewarded.

In roughly 1999/2000 a business idea I implemented (and one that is still in place today) earned a bonus of about 1.25 X my then salary. It does happen.
