Problem caused in Boot Camp by Snow Leopard
I found myself with a strange problem.
I set up windows xp on my imac using boot camp and then used the snow leopard disc to install drivers etc. I then tried to install a game (GTA IV) but setup.exe immediately crashed to desktop. I tried with another game (Fallout 3), same thing. Today I tried re-installing xp without installing the drivers etc from the snow leopard disc. This time, both games installed fine. But without the extras from the snow leopard disc, I can't play them. Does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it? Thanks for any help you can offer. |

Kind of odd. I personally have Fallout 3 as well installed on my MBP in XP, although it was installed originally with Leopard and not SL.
Maybe it's a case of outdated Apple drivers? The major stuff can be installed manually from their manufacturer like video card drivers, sound, wifi, and things like that. But drivers for the processor and backlight on the keyboard, and some others are just easier done from the Mac disk (if not impossible otherwise). It could have been a fluke before. I would suggest just reinstalling the drivers, but maybe someone else will have a better answer.

Thanks for the reply madog. I actually tried reinstalling xp a few times and installing the drivers etc. using snow leopard but each time I couldn't install the games. I was thinking about installing the drivers using my leopard disc (rather than snow leopard). Do you think that could give me better results?

Resolved.
Just in case anyone wanted closure on this problem. After installing both games, I used the Snow Leopard disc to install the drivers. I can now play the games. PLUS, I can still install other games too. So, I'm not sure why this worked but it seams that game installations are no longer a problem after I first installed a game and THEN installed the snow leopard drivers. |

I've personally only ever had to install the Apple drivers once. Since then I've updated the system fully through the Windows Update (after installing SP3), installed/updated some of those drivers directly from the manufacturer (nvidia, sound, and wifi drivers as the Apple ones are typically outdated) and have had no problems installing Fallout 3, the Orange Box, Assassins Creed, Torchlight, Wolverine, and The Sims 3.
