Has it been running slowly since you installed 10.5? Or has it just started to happen?

have you tried running 10.4 on it, 1 gig of ram isnt much, and given it's a G4 im guessing it's DDR?

try re-installing 10.3 in that case and see if the problem persists, if it does then it's possibly a hardware problem, or it could just be that your little system hasnt got the poke to run 10.5 and everything else your trying to do

Its not just about the programs you run. Leopard uses more resources than tiger, tiger more than Panther etc etc.
If you do not want to run Panther why not try Tiger? |

hmmmm yeah thought it might of been leopard,
just out of interest what version of 10.5 were ya running, the .8 variant usually runs really fast, even on my old iBook G4, that only had a 1.33Mhz and 512Mb of ram :S |

Run Activity Monitor.app.
Click the System Memory tab. Observe Page ins, Page outs, and Swap used. Rapidly increasing Page outs in particular suggests inadequate amount of RAM. Also click the Disk Activity tab. Is the disk almost constantly working? |
