do after effects and snow leopard play nicely for anyone?

i'm running snow leopard 10.6.2 as well as after effects cs4 v9.0.2 on a macbook pro 2.8ghz w/ 4gb ram.

since snow leopard, i've found after effects to be very sluggish and will actually use up ALL my free memory (activity monitor hovers around 5-10mb remaining). this often results in several gb of page outs, too. all this makes both working and rendering really painful.

my question is whether other people running after effects on snow leopard have experienced similar problems. i did a reformat and fresh install of snow leopard when i first got it, but i'm willing to give it a second go if other people have had positive experiences with the two. otherwise i'm going to have to go back to leopard, as i had no such issues running AE on that os.
