Adium icon doesn't "sleep"

I have Adium both on my Macbook and my parents' iMac. On my Macbook if Adium isn't running the dock icon is a sleeping duck (which wakes up when you open Adium). On my parents' iMac the icon is an awake duck even if the application is quit. How do I fix this so it's sleeping if quit?

I've never had this problem until I installed Snow Leopard on my wife's MacBook. It's unnerving to have the dock duck's eyes open when the program isn't running.
