How does your iMac access the internet?
Via Airport/W-LAN to a router to a modem? Do you use PPPoeE on your iMac or on a router? Have you looked at internet sharing in the Sharing System Preferences?

So you use an UMTS (HSDPA) to connect to the internet, right?
It will have its own software, which you have to run to connect to the internet. Have a look at the manual (sometimes on the stick) and see if you can use the stick without the software that came with and set up a PPPoE network setting, so that your Mac itself will dial up. That way you could share the internet connection. Have you taken a look at System Preferences > Network if you USB stick might have created its own setting? You can post screen shots if you have trouble deciphering what you find.
