how long can the Apple Hardware Test run?

I'm running an extended Apple Hardware Test on my 4Gb MacBook Pro. It's been running 50 minutes and isn't even 25% completed going by the progress bar. It's been on the same step (memory pass number 2) for pretty much this entire time. Is this a sign that something is wrong with my MacBook Pro? It was purchased new in June of this year.

Will the test eventually fail at some point, or will it run like this until I tell it to stop testing?

An extended memory test can run for quite a while, so yes, a lengthy delay while the tests runs is typical. You asked for an extended test and so now it's testing... extendedly.

If it fails, it'll return an error result. If not, it'll eventually finish and give you a pass.

Out of curiosity, were you running into a problem (kernel panics, etc) that prompted you to run the test?
