Official Apple Store Tiger Event Thread

Ok, this thread is for people who are going to be at the store tonight to post what's going on for the rest of us who aren't there.

If you're in line outside the store, post here as well.

If you can use a camera and post a pic, that'd be great!

And if someone could find out if the iMacs, iBooks, Mac Minis and Power Books are coming preinstalled with Tiger that would cool.

Only post here if you're at the store OR if you have a question you'd like answered by someone at a store

Thanks,

D

Spotlight and Safari are the hits. About 30 people in the store, no waiting.
DashBoard is unable to find the internet here. Can't change the prefs for location or get any information in the Weather Widget. No one seems to know anything about it. Safari seems twice as fast. iChat video is strong. Looks like Spotlight will replace LaunchBar.

I asked a question on when can we expect to see Mac Mini supporting CI. And I was told that CI was created mainly for the pro apps (like motion).

Oh one more thing. When I tried to play back H.264 movie from Apple website, my PB 1.33Ghz barely played it back, activity monitor was showing like 60%-80% pracessor usage.

Woodfield has been fun

Tons of people here - line was quite long. Here with the family, so no time to type a lot, but I won an iTunes (no PowerBook tonight)!

Hope you all are having fun!!

Just entered the Apple store at the Alderwood Mall, Lynwood Wa.

I won a free song. Was hoping for an Airport base station or JBL speaker. Oh well. Can't complain.

Can't post any pics as no camera on hand. There was about 5 people when I arrived about 40 minutes till opening. Decided to wander around and returned back at about 15-20 minutes before opening and 30-40 people were there. Should've learned my lesson about taking advantage at the line but I never do. I was already drizzling when I got there.

Typing on 20" iMac.

So can we conclude that this was no big deal and that I don't have to rush to the Apple store for goodies.

Tiger in Brisbane

I was at the Tiger premiere event at Apple Centre Newfarm (Brisbane): there was a 30 minute demo on Tiger (mainly Spotlight and Dashboard) and about 20-25 people in attendance (not a very big store - well not like the one I went to in Phoenix while I was in the States). They had some nibblies (cheese platter and chips etc) and a salesperson dressed up in a tiger suit. They had their iChat AV conferenced with other stores down south (eg Melbourne). No discounts though and no door prize, except a raffle for the first-100 to purchase Tiger. The prize is $199-worth of store credit ("Get your Tiger for free"???). I was sort of disappointed

Edit: I asked and they said that other Macs purchased after last night will include Tiger pre-installed. One of the salespersons said they are heaving a lot of trouble getting iMacs in (esp. the 17" one) so they are guessing that something is about to happen. But they don't know more than we do.

Apple Store: Easton Towne Center

Hey all!

I was at Easton tonight, from approx. 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. While I was there a lady who walked in at 7:30 won a PowerBook (you should have heard the screaming). I was insanely jealous - mainly because I only got a free iTMS song.

Easton was packed ALL NIGHT LONG, and appeared to be doing great business.

Tiger was NOT coming preinstalled, but was being bundled with all computers (taped to the outside of the boxes).

Beginning on Sunday at 8 am, anyone who bought Tiger who will be visiting Easton is eligible for a 1-hour meeting with a Mac Specialist to learn about Tiger or have their system optimized for Tiger.

All in all - good night. Would have been great if I would have been just 30 minutes later!

I was also at the Easton store, I got there at 6 I was near the middle of the line, which was reaching all the way to nearly the end of the street.

I also won a 1GB shuffle. So my night was complete.

Night of the Tiger

I was at the Woodfield Mall in Schaumberg (Chicago-area). This was my first Apple event to attend, and it was nice to be able to come to one.

I'm guessing that every scratch sticker was a winner. I won a free song. hey, it's something! Now, which song to buy in addition to all of my Pepsi caps winnings. A guy ahead of me in line won a 6GB iPod mini...one problem...the guy was deaf. No, I'm not joking. Murphy's Law is very twisted.

No T-shirts, though.

I have a copy of Tiger coming eventually. I was somewhat tempted to buy it in the Store, but eventually decided against it. Tiger certainly does have some nice features, but in many ways, it feels like the least "improved" upgrade in the Mac OS X line. I just hope that the new technologies don't quickly bump out Mac OS 10.3 and earlier versions too quickly. I'm still upgrading, of course, but Tiger didn't impress me nearly as much as I thought it would.

But I did make at least one purchase...bought a boxed copy of OmniWeb. Even the box was funny to read.

So is there a line for the Tiger Event outside the store yet? And is there any indication that they will be having a 10% off on new computer bought tonigh?

I'm at the Victoria Gardens store. Its 1:41pm here... And the store isn't busy at all. I've been here since 7am. Lots of fun. The employees have said that they would just toss in a Tiger DVD with any system purchased after 6pm. Anything before that has to go through the mail in program.

There was no queue in London until after 4.30pm. I suspect this is because most of this who ended up in the queue then had spent the time inside the store playing with Tiger since it was already installed on their Macs.

After 4.30, the line grew rapidly and made it all the way around the corner down towards the square. Lots of attention garnered from the general public!Like the grand opening, all the staff gathered around the entrance and up the staircase and applauded everyone coming in. Boxes of Tiger were displayed all over the store! Two girls at the door handed each person a scratchcard as they walked in.

The lines for buying Tiger were enormous (thankfully, I was number 8!) in the store - zig zagging across the back of the store where the cash registers were 3 times and all the way back to the front of the store again. The line upstairs wasn't a lot shorter!

There was no standard 10% off unless you got that on your scratchcard.

I've already got Tiger, but I want to know what the door prizes are, if any. AppleInsider mentioned something about t-shirts being shipped to the stores.

Ah, that's too bad - so what were some of the other things on the scratch and win card?

Was every card a winner, though?
