Why are mockups of rumored products considered front page news?

I'm just curious why mockups of rumored Apple products are considered front page news worthy? I get leaked photos that may or may not be the real thing. But commissioning someone to mockup what you think a product could look like? I don't get how that's newsworthy.

It's because this is a rumors website. Mock ups clearly fit that bill.

Because it's a good way to bring together all of the rumors floating around and generate discussion about what the final product might look like.

Hardware leaks I get but a mock up based on very few reliable details to me doesn't seem to fit the bill of news or rumor. Seems to me to be a waste of time.

The same reason that OS X news is considered page 2.

Page views => Ad revenue.

These are not random guesses. The track record for educated mockups based on leaked info is pretty good. These were all posted before the actual products were announced:

Of course, the non-symetrical iPhone 5 mockups didn't end up being a real product, but we do believe they were real prototypes.
