Hi,
My 2tb Seagate has developed a problem that requires reformatting (currently Mac OS Extended), luckily I can still access the files held on it (though no longer write to it). I therefore wish to copy the entire contents over to my new external Western Digital HDD (Mac OS Extended (Journaled)) of the same capacity. However, attempting a simple copy-and-paste brings up an error message: " this operation cannot be completed because it is not supported".
I am using a Macbook Pro 2.4GHz Intel core i5, OS X 10.6.8.
Can anyone please assist as I want to sort this before the Seagate packs in for good.
Many thanks,
Adam

"Please tell me more about Carbon Copy Cloner.."

Go here and download CCC 3.4.7:
http://www.bombich.com/download.html
(Note: although it says it's not tested for 10.7 and 10.8, use it anyway)

Hook up the drives and launch CCC.

On the left you select your "source" drive (the problem drive).
On the right you select your "target" (where the files will be saved to)
Choose to backup everything and enter your password when required.

That should do!
