NFC, real world experience, anybody actually using it?

I don't pay a monthly fee for my credit card.

With respect to other posts that quoted me, I do understand that NFC can be used in situations other than paying, and that it might be convenient to carry just a phone and not a credit card. The problem is that NFC requires equipment on the seller's side, and this is far from universal yet. Frankly, I don't see shop owners investing in new point of sale equipment in this economy unless they absolutely have to. Also, NFC credit card payments have an upper limit - I think most people will still carry their credit card for large payments.

That is exactly how I feel about NFC. It will take a lot more than just NFC to make me upgrade to a 5S since I would actually go out of my way to incorporate it.

I've got a Galaxy Nexus and a NFC token in my keyring and I've used it at most 5 times in 4 months to change settings.

That's not intelligent at all. Actually that's the complete opposite. I can do that with Android but set the phone to only do it when I'm at home.

So silent from 11 to 6 every night but only when I'm at my house. If I'm out at local bars or buddies houses it will not do that.

Location based setting is one of my biggest gripes of my iPhone. I need to manually change things depending on what I'm doing. Most usually require menu diving.
