Hi all,

I have a late 2007 MacBook (first Santa Rosa chip) that was running Mac OS 10.5.8. I've put my computer's specs below.

I just today installed Mac OS X Snow Leopard, 10.6.3. from a CD-ROM I purchased from the online Apple store.

I now want to install from Apple's website the latest OS which my laptop will accept, and I want the very latest version.

My question is, do I have to install Mac OS 10.7 (Lion) first and then 10.8, or can I go directly to 10.8 (or 10.9)?

Please provide links to the downloads I need if possible.

Thank you.
=========================================
My computer's specs:

- 13.3" MacBook laptop (first with the Santa Rosa chip—purchased November 2007)
- 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor (Intel-based Mac, 64-bit processor)
- Intel GMA X3100 Chipset model
- Mac OS 10.5.8
- 4 GB of SDRAM memory
- 144 MB VRAM (video RAM)
- Color LCD monitor with 1280 x 800 resolution
- Depth: 32-bit color
- 120GB hard drive

The latest version of Mac OS X your machine can run is 10.7/Lion. It cannot run 10.8+.

And from what I understand you can't download Lion anywhere legally. You'd have to find one of the USB sticks with it loaded or "acquire" it.

Of course Snow Leopard is a good system in and of itself. I'm running it on my 2009 MBP,

Why would you bother? Every OS after Snow Leopard is the equivalent of Windows Vista, imho.

Transferring iTunes products from MacBook to PC

Diane,

Yes, I would just use my Toshiba with Windows 7 but I can't transfer my iTunes products from my MacBook to the Toshiba. I have to listen to them on the MacBook. I guess I'd have to purchase them all over again through iTunes on my Toshiba. The reason I'm wanting to upgrade to OS 10.6.8 is because that is the minimum system requirement for the latest iPod Nano and Shuffle, one of which I'd like to buy.

I'm not very computer savvy so if there is a way of doing that transfer let me know.

If you install iTunes on the Windows machine, you just have to sign in with the same Apple ID and you'll be able to redownload all of your iTunes purchases for free.

When I made my comment I thought you were wanting to upgrade to Lion or ML. If you are looking to get a copy of 10.6.8, as far as I'm concerned, that is the most stable OS Apple ever produced.

To me, iCloud isn't worth all the other baggage ML came with.

You can get 10.6.8 by doing a software update from the Apple menu. It won't cost you anything. 10.6 in general is very solid and runs well on my 2009 MBP, although I'm waiting for Mavericks.
