You can't run 8gb on a black macbook. 6 GB is the max.

Am i right?

Well, technically the late-2007 and newer can see and use 8GB. But after using 6GB they get extremely unstable and slow because they run out of memory access registers.

I'm assuming this means SERATO? How does that Macbook hold up running it? I have a 2012 Macbook Pro but thinking about getting a 2.4 GHz Macbook as a backup mostly for deejaying and Photoshop etc

I have a 2008 black MB with 4GB ram and a 2010 white MB with 4GB ram. The black MB is running SL and the 2010 is on ML.

Lately, the 2010 is being bogged down by simply using SABnzb to download TV shows and movies and when it starts to unrar a file, it will just make my MB unusable and will slow down so much that it will take up to 6 hours or more to unrar a 8GB file.

It's so bad that I started using my black MB to do this because it never slows down doing such a thing under SL.

Just picked one up on eBay for £100. What a steal!
It has the newer keyboard layout (media control) so I'm guessing its at least a 2007 model.....what are the chances of apple replacing the classic cracked palmrest in 2013?

Apple won't replace any of the Blackbook keyboards with the number pad on them. They're all listed as Vintage and Apple doesn't service or stock parts for them anymore. The late-2007 Macbook, the first with the media keys, will be made Vintage in June. So if you want it replaced for free, take it in before June.

I just swapped my Lenovo laptop against a Macbook 3,1. My 2006 MBP was out of order and I needed a new mac for photoshop. I am so happy to finally have one of these white Macbooks. I will remove the superdrive and put an harddrive instead, with a SSD.

Thinking about buying this new-old-stock black Macbook just for the novelty of having a black Apple laptop.

Just would like to ask you guys if any of the stories of the black Macbook having problems with its black plastic casing cracking with age are true?

They really don't crack from age, more like use and due to manufacturing defects. Most of the cases from 2008 Blackbooks don't crack as often as the 2006/2007 ones. But they still can if used or opened incorrectly.

Thanks Intell! Will definitely go grab that black Macbook then. I'm sure it won't be an abused laptop.

Good morning (at least its morning here) so here's the thing, I saw a great deal on a Black MacBook (Mid 2007) with 4 GB RAM and a "decent" hard drive. I'm planning to purchase it because I'm still stuck with my 2006 Mac Mini and the lack of processor power really drives me nuts when using Photoshop and Ilustrator. So the thing is will a Black MacBook (this one http://portocity.olx.pt/macbook-2007...-iid-437179637) suite my needs on Photoshop and maybe Final Cut Express I know the graphics on this thing is the same graphics my mini has GMA 950 i think the black is the X3100 not sure though

If it's a mid-2007, it'll be just as fast as your Mini. They have the same internal parts. With a CPU upgrade, your Mini could become slightly faster then the mid-2007 Blackbook though at 2.33Ghz. But it'd still be stuck with the poor performing GMA950 GPU.
