I believe it only counts if you use "Righty tighty, Lefty Loosey"

I am led to believe that the rhyming is critical in DIY Jobs. :p

Sir, your correction of my foolishly incorrect phrase is appreciated.

I'm sure my next DIY project, changing my furnace filter, will go much more easily because of your help.

We high level, exquisitely skilled craftspeople must continue to refine our already well honed skills.

;) :p

I don't know bro. For a difficult job like that, I'd get a professional in!

I need to keep challenging my already amazingly highly developed skills.

If I run into any serious problems...like opening the plastic bag containing the new filter...I'll definitely follow your advice!

:)

I had some wooden pallets which i got after the good are delivered. am using that unused pallets as shoe rack. You can try this for your home which are simple and cost effective.

Some outstanding work in this thread - definitely motivating me for our next round of updates!

We had company over the holiday, so we did a pretty massive clear/clean out, re-design of the 1st floor, including the new TV/AV setup (see Home Theater thread :) ). That was mostly gyrating pictures, furniture, etc.

This next phase is going to be pretty substantial in terms of actual build/fab: possibly a walk-in shower in the master, new deck, etc. Looks like some excellent subject matter expertise in here too for a little Q&A

Neat idea. Are they scratching up your shoes though? I work with a lot of pallets at work and mind get scuffed up.

This is from a decoration project I did last year in my bedroom.

My room is tiny, so I try and save space by having things mounted on the wall.
The pics are the room and how it was before the renovation, there's also some of the work done and then the end result. :)

So before then - single bed, bedside table and a random set of drawers with cr*p on!

My TV was on the wall along with my games consoles like this:

But I wanted to switch the wall it was on...

So the work begun!

Take everything off!

Fill the holes... sorry mum!

Prepare / destroy the other wall for TV mounting! :p

I added the sockets as they were on the other wall so they wouldn't be seen when everything was on and plugged in. I also cut 2 holes in the wall - one behind where the TV would sit and one just above the shelf where the consoles would sit. This is so the HDMI cables / scarts etc could go through, down and come out the wall to be plugged into the TV. No need to conceal any wires this way!

All that was left to do was sand the wall down that used to hold the TV, paint all the walls, get the new furniture in there (double bed win! ) and add cushions. Cushions are always good!

Here's how it ended up!

I'm now not allowed to destroy and repatch any walls... which is fair enough! Good job I'm happy with it for now ha!

You did some nice work. My opinion....I would have mounted the TV a little higher, it looks like it's low enough that if you're laying in bed you have to watch it with your legs perfectly flat....no knees up even a little bit.

I have recently begun quilting, and for my second project, I chose a design that was a bit ambitious for a beginner. It took a lot of time to cut all the pieces and stitch them together, but the real challenge was free-motion machine quilting the logos on a $150 (cheap) home sewing machine.

The quilt is 80" x 80" in size, and the back is white flannel. After this quilt, I must admit I'm addicted.

edit: added better photo

Took a few months just working weekends only. Ikea kitchen.

Did you sub out any of the work or did you do it all yourself? Getting ready to start my kitchen remodel at the beginning of the year. I plan on subcontracting a few items out, but most of the work will be done by me and the wife! Just curious.

This came out great by the way!!!

Thanks! We did it all ourselves except for the plumbing. He ran a gas line for the stove and rerouted the lines for the dishwasher.

tv project 2.0:: its a work in progress, will be repainting as well. i re-hung my tv again, this time the bed and tv are in a more natural position before the tv and bed were facing each other backwards and i put my bed inside my closet. everybody tells me how i hung my tv on that short piece of wall above my closet frame, keep in mind that i have a 40" tv. very simple, i just reinforced the short studs with 2x4's, problem solved. will be adding mirror accordion doors to my closet to finish off the look.

by the way, that big hole on the rite side of the tv is where i had my speakers but since i sold that sound system i took advantage of the opening and re-hung my tv there. will be closing that hole soon as well
