Only Black Screen on ATV when Airplay music from Iphone?

I used to get the cover art and a play timer that would flip back and forth on the screen.

Recently though, whether we play from Pandora or the music app, i'm only getting a black screen.

Does anyone know why the change happened or how i can reverse it?

It's an ATV3 and we both have IP5s. thanks!

**Edit: just tested and have the same thing when streaming from ipad (3rd gen)
