It most likely won't be able to connect. Some switches will strip jumbo frames. YMMV.

I may give 4.2 firmware a go as it sounds promising I'm on 4.0 right now.

Synology does not come with harddrive, yes, but at least you can choose what you require. It's not cheap alltogether, but good piece of tech was never cheap!

Just a heads up.
4.2 beta may have a bug with Time Machine backups. It may say corrupt backup, delete the old backup and start again. Did it once for me and a few users on the Synology forum.

Try 4.1 first. Synology's pretty fast with updates and I'm sure 4.2 will be out of beta in a month or so.

OP, the local vendor has a DS213+ @ $425 available. Must resist temptation , there's absolutely nothing wrong with my DS212j

I feel like an idiot as I just noticed that we live in the same city...I live in the Yonge / 401 area, where are you.

Where can I get the DS213+ for that price as I will even let you come an play with it but, before I do, how old is the model and is it due to be replaced?

Thanks,

Joel

Just PMed you.

The DS213 = 2 bay, 2013. It's new. The 214 will probably be out this fall.

For a single user the 213+ is overkill and aside from speed (it's a dual core PPC) the 213j will do everything the 213+ does.

Appreciate that but where did you see that excellent pricing on the 213+...I have this philosophy to always go as fast as you can afford -- within reason of course -- as speed is irreplaceable and can extend the useful life of a product...still in the deciding / looking stage...

You have PM by the way...
