Check this out on AMZN: Asus VS247H-P 24-Inch Full-HD LED Monitor http://amzn.com/B005BZNDS0

Sorry about that

looks like a great value. i've had good experience with asus monitors. not sure if this one is an ips display.

i think you'll be able to find a number of asus, dell, hp, etc monitors that will satisfy your 2 monitors for $600 goal though. extras you pay for are ips, 1920x1200, stand that tilts/rotates/height adjustment, USB ports, brand name, etc.

Thanks for the reply, I can spend up to 600 but if these monitors are a pretty good bang for buck I would rather save the money and putt it towards a 256gb SSD

Get just one 2560x1440 one. You will find a maximum of 2 times 1920x1200 for 600, more probably 2 times 1920x1080, and the 1440 vertical is worth one bigger display alone. Get a Dell U2713HM, it is the best bang for the buck right now.

Newby question

Please excuse the beginner question. If the mac - mini is connected to a 1900x1200 monitor , and the graphics of the mini can only produce 1900x1080. will the image on the monitor always appear to be stretched?

Which Mini are you using? The unibody Mac Mini's can output up to 1920x1200 through the HDMI port, and 2560x1600 through the Thunderbolt port.

Thanks for the info.

Is there a complete list available of what resolutions the 2012 Mini (w/HD 4000 graphics) will support?

I was thinking of this monitor:

Something of a new size in displays -- the resolution is 2560x1080.

Thanks for the information. I did a fair amount of research this afternoon, and I believe I understand resolution somewhat better than I did before, but is there an appreciable difference in the size of text on a 24" 1920x1200 monitor, and the size of text on a 24" 1920X1080 or is it negligible?

Nope, but just got a new 23" ASUS VH232 off newegg for 159.00 USD that I am using on my new mac mini. Its not a glossy display, but over all its great for the price. Shows 1920x1080 very nicely, has excellent vibrant color.

BTW, I also got a mDP to DVI one piece cable and have had no display issues so far. I haven't bothered with the HDMI connection as trying to avoid those video issues.

I have a 27" LCD also and its not a big deal at all. I am sure if someone went from a Retina display to a 27" they may complain. But over all its still very clear. Heck even on my 39" LED TV it displays reasonably good after adjusting the sharpness down.

Very clear, my only complaint is that I have got used to glossy screens and this one has the traditional antiglare roughness to the screen that makes bright whites seem glittery to me. But thats normal on all monitors with antiglare. I just know most mac users are accustomed to glossy screens that dont do this. I have got used to it also, but good this is I can leave my window open during the day and still read this screen compared to when I use my Macbook Air that reflects like crazy.. So nothing wrong with the monitor at all, just making the point its not a glossy screen incase your used to that.

Anything 1080 is crap especially TN panels 1080, a repurposed TV set.

Get something like the U2142M from dell, best bang for the buck and its a proper monitor and good all around performer for photo editing etc.. The go for 299 on the web.
