I just find the fonts and UI on the small side with the mini,
so I'd go 5 unless Apple updates the UI
to work better on the mini with my eyes :)

The only way to decrees the iPad's weight by 330 grams would be to decrees the screen size to 7.8" and not be Retina so you could use a much smaller battery to make thinner.

I'm not sure that a regular sized iPad could be half the weight, unless you seriously sacrificed battery life, and/or used plastic instead of aluminium. Even then I'm not sure that it would be possible.
With those sacrifices I wouldn't want it. But if you managed to achieve half the weight without the sacrifices. My credit card would instantly take a hammering.

I'm not sure how Apple could cut the weight of the iPad in half. But as always, I'd have to see it first, then decide.

IGZO display? And the devil would be in the details. If it was only half the weight, but the screen was similar without new features or a different user experience (noticeably zippier on 'consumer' features and apps), I'd be ambivalent about trading in my 3.

Now a Mini with the same size and form factor with a sharp retina, hells yea!

How about a (x)Pad where you can just attach the processor or control components to a screen size of choice.
Mini this morning , tablet in the afternoon, table tonight.
None size fits all.

i can see that happening in 10 years

you have a core cpu and you apply it to different screens and form factors, laptops, tablets, etc

The next ipad will be as thin as the ipad mini if they can get the IZGO displays read. By default, the Mini will have a retina. It's is wishful thinking, but could happen (hopefully)

I frankly don't see iPad 5 becoming half as light and thin as iPad 4. That would imply 0.18" thickness (vs. 0.28" of iPad mini and 0.24" of ultra thin iPod touch) and 0.72. lbs (vs 0.68 lbs. on mini). Heck, it would be amazing if iPad 5 becomes 0.3" thin (20% thinner, same as iPhone 5) and weighs 1 lbs (30% lighter).

Having said all that, I would not be able to justify spending $170 more for 10-inch iPad when iPad mini gets both retina screen and similar processing power as 10-inch iPad. For this reason alone, I suspect Apple may add some new exclusive feature to 10-inch iPad.
