Storage space being eaten up
I have a late 2008 MacBook Pro with a 250gb hard drive. Last week I backed up all stuff and did a clean install of OS X Mountain Lion. Once this had installed I had 232gb free.. Going off my finder, I am only using 53.52gb of my hard drive, but looking at disk utility I only have 35.16 GB available! Thats 160gb unaccounted for... I did use the command in terminal "write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles YES" to see if there were any hidden folders I was missing but still no luck. Has anyone else had this problem?
Also could someone suggest a decent disk cleaning utility to at least help me diagnose the problem. I have 'Disk Inventory X' but that has given me the same information as looking at finder and seeing only 53gb of files...
Any advice would be appreciated!

If you're wondering what "Other" category in the Lion/ML storage tab is about, this may help explain:
How OS X and iOS report storage capacity

Take a look at the image below (didn't realise mountain lion had the capability to analyse disk allocation...)
It is reporting my backups are taking over my disk space.I have my mac backed up on a timecapsule already. How can I remove these back ups?

This was the result from du -h -d1
unknown-00:25:00:3d:c7:df:~ rhysskachill-kelly$ du -h -d1
And this is the result from sudo du -h -d1
There is nothing to indicate where this stray 160gb has disappeared to.. Each of the directories add up to what the 'about this mac' graphic tallied...
Hoping you have some other tricks up your sleeve?
