Unhappy Bootcamp - New iMac - no superdrive help

Hi All,

Please goe easy on me

This is my first iMac (late 2012 no cd drive model)

I have no superdrive and I want to install bootcamp on my imac

I have windows 7 on my old laptop and a product key - I dont have the installation CD

I've done lots of googleling but don't know how to make a new bootable windows image file that doesn't have all my old files etc off old pc - i want a fresh install basically.

Is there a way to create a fresh install image file and install bootcamp from a externaldrive with this fresh image file on so I dont have to buy a superdrive.

Hope that makes sense

Thanks

Josh

You can't because the windows key is already registered to that windows machine.

OK Thanks

So do you think I should just do this?

Buy superdrive > buy windows 8 CD > run bootcamp

Thanks

What version of Windows 7 do you have? Also, is it a retail copy, or an OEM copy with the sticker affixed to the laptop?

You can download Windows now, and after this restore the ISO to a USB disk with Disk Utility, after that you can use it as an installer by holding the Option key at startup, but before doing this you need to partition the HD in Disk Utility, you can do so from OS X, it will resize the OS X partition and create a new one for Windows without loosing Data.
But, to be safe you should always backup!
So, no superdrive needed, oh and if you ever want to buy a external there are much cheaper ones on Ebay.
