Can i get my iCloud on iPhone to FETCH (30min) instead of PUSH?

(Prefix: Due to poor battery i am trying to find ways to preserve battery, so i hoped that this would be one of the ways)

I am using iCloud for Mail, Calendar etc. and would like to set it to fetch/update every 30 minutes but when i set the settings to FETCH periodically and then send myself a mail i still get the mail in the phone in a few seconds or minutes, no sign of the 30 minutes interval that i set up.

Does anybody know if that works at all or am i doing something wrong?

Do you have Push turned off? They shouldn't be getting pushed if it's off. Also you can change iCloud to Fetch instead under the 'Advanced' menu where the Push/Fetch settings are.
