Take a look at car names
You don't focus a Ford, it's a Ford Focus You don't ram the Dodge, it's a Dodge Ram You don't go outback with Subaru, it's a Subaru Outback. Ok I'll stop there. |

I always thought they should have called it "Representationalism Mac"

I didn't suggest that naming a device was a trivial matter for Apple. What is trivial is a user worrying about what it's called after Apple has already selected a name.

No, there isn't. A company in the process of deciding on a product name is one matter. A user who worries about the name of the product after it's already been well established is another matter entirely. There is no connection whatsoever. There's nothing the user can do about the name, once millions have been sold over many years. Worrying about it is a waste of time and mental energy. It won't change anything.

a) a company introduces a service and calls it something. b) users dislike the name. c) the company changes the name. has never happened and will never happen? If you intend to convince yourself that a name, designed to appeal to users, has no connection to with what users actually think of it, and how the company reacts to that, I can't stop you. RGDS,

No one is saying that the above COULDN'T happen, but heck look at the Nintendo Wii, man there's a console name that just released it's second version and Nintendo still refuses to change the name. Further, we know Apple chooses their names and doesn't change just because users dislike the name. iPad is a PERFECT example of this. They still catch flack for the name, but you know what? Millions of iPads have been sold and not a hint that they will ever change it. Frankly the Mac Mini has been out side 2004 (or was it 2005?) and they have never changed the name. Why would they now? I have to agree with GGJStudios on this one, a name is just a name. Why does it matter? Why get worked up over something like whether it should be Mini Mac or Mac Mini or any other product name. If you really have a problem with it, don't buy it. Money talks more than anything else. And the old adage of there's no such thing as bad publicity.... A name especially falls into that category. Edit: This thread really falls into the "who gives a fudge" category doesn't it?

Apple isn't going to change the name of the Mac mini because someone in an internet forum complains about it. Millions who have bought them over the years and are still buying them haven't complained, so it's ludicrous to think Apple will change the name to please a very few who obsess about such trivial matters.

First world problems. If this is the main concern in your life, you need to volunteer in Africa.

MP 3,1 Octo
It bothers me that they call these computers mac-mini instead of mini-mac.
