Moving iPhoto Library

Hi All I am trying to relocate my iPhoto Library to an external Mercury Elite Pro USB 3 drive 3TB formatted as exFAT. However when I try to copy the iPhotoLibrary.iphotolibrary container which is 66GB it starts off to copy and then reaches 89MB copied and just freezes. The estimated time quickly creeps up to 2 days and no more progress. I let it site for some time and no further progress occurred. I can copy any other files big or small even a 4.7GB dmg of OSX but the iPhot Library will not copy. I thought it might be a Finder thing so I tried using ChronoSync to copy and it also stopped after 89MB. What is preventing the iPhoto Library from copying any ideas? I have no issues making and entirely new library I need to clean it up anyway but I want to preserve the photobooks I spent a long time creating in case i ever need a reprint. Looking for any insight to this issue.
