iTunes beachball on launch

Recently my iTunes has started beachballing for a good 10-15 seconds every time I open it. It eventually resolves and then everything's a-ok, but having to wait what feels like forever every time I open the app is driving me nuts. The wait is always the same amount and Activity Monitor shows no significant activity during the wait, and there's no indication within iTunes of what the problem is. Any diagnostic things I could try?

You might try recreating the iTunes library.
