GPU usage & Encoding

All,

i'm currently converting mp4 to .264 using Handbrake, my iMac 3.4 i7 with Apple SSD, 32Gb RAM & 2GB GPU has been going at it for about 9 hours (lots to encode) however one thing I have noticed is that the GPU is completely "full". The processor is running at 798% (8 cores) But I wasn't aware that encoding used the GPU intensively?

I've got a couple of VM windows open and my usual programmes. RAM usage is about 18Gb with 14Gb spare but lots of page outs too!

Anyone know if the GPU should be being used?

Cheers
