.dvdmedia extension: NAS to play videos on PS3 or w/DirecTV HD DVR tuner?
Hello, I am using Ripit to copy a bunch of DVDs and using Toast 8 Titanium (ancient, I know) to burn backups. I'm doing this for my kids' (ages 3 and 1) DVDs, as they have a propensity for handling and damaging the originals. I'm using my 2011 MBP to rip, and am storing the ".dvdmedia" on an external HDD for burning later on.
So, I got to thinking, since I'll have them all stored on the hard drive, is there any way I can just connect this hard drive to my wireless network to play on my PS3 or my DirecTV tuner? I also have a Roku 2 XD in my basement connected to an old tube television, and I really like the interface. I'm thinking about putting one on my main TV, too, so I don't have to mess around with the PS3 when viewing shows on Netflix streaming and Hulu Plus. So if I can't get this to work on the PS3 or DirecTV tuner, would it work with the Roku? If it matters, the HDD is formatted OSX Extended Journaled. Thanks for the help!! |

Anybody? Just looking for a good way to wirelessly play ripped movies in my home. My router is an Airport that's maybe three years old, it has USB so I have the ability to connect a HDD to it. I have a PS3 upstairs and a Roku downstairs. Thanks for any help.

If you convert the movies using Handbrake to mpeg4, you can play them on a PS3 no problem. The ps3 can not play raw DVD data.
