Backlit keyboard keeps turning off

The backlit keyboard on my 2012 MacBook Pro sometimes decides to just turn itself off at random. Usually it comes back on again, or I have to power off and back on for it to work. Any ideas why please?

It's not random. The backlit keyboard adjusts its own light based off the light in your environment, as does the screen lighting.

You're probably in a well lit environment, so the backlit keyboard turns off as the computer thinks you don't need it.

You can disable this in the System Preferences.

Thanks xShane, I didnt realise that. I'll keep an eye on it and see if thats the cause
