More hard drive space after Time Machine restore?
I didn't want to post this question on my previous thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1364583) since I think this would be a separate concern.
I just did a full restore overnight of my MBP from a Time Machine backup. Before the backup, Finder said I had about 4 GB available. After the restore finished this morning, Finder says I have about 20 GB available.
I've looked around and all my files seem to be here intact - all movies, pictures, iTunes podcasts, music, applications, e-mails, etc. So my question is, is it normal to get that much more space on my hard drive after doing a full Time Machine restore?

I was wondering the same thing.
Don't know if this is the answer but "Local snapshots require space on your internal HD (and any other disk/partition that Time Machine is backing-up). Time Machine will, however, delete some or all as necessary if it gets too full. If the disk gets to 80% full, it will start deleting the oldest ones, at a low priority (so might take a while). "
I'm using os 10.5.8 so Time Machine doesn't do snapshots, but perhaps there is some sort of version of it working in the background? It seems normal.

You can see mine here.
If you wiped and restored that volume would have started at zero again.

That screen shot says 18.45 EB (Exabytes) of Movies... That would equate to
> 4500 4TB drives. Is it possible there's a math error in about / overview?
