I have two computers running Mountain Lion, and - for now - I decided to stay away from iCloud, at least for now. So I am using dropbox to sync both calendar and addresses, using the same approach: Calendar as suggested here (http://macs.about.com/od/CloudServices/qt/Use-Dropbox-To-Sync-Ical.htm) and similarly, Contacts as here (http://macs.about.com/od/CloudServices/qt/Sync-Your-Macs-Address-Book-Using-Dropbox.htm).

Basically, moved both databases to dropbox and symbolic links to them are set where they are supposed to. Calendar works wonderfully when I open both computers.

Yet, Contacts on the secondary computer is empty, and doesn't seem to be able to access the address book. I wonder whether it might have to do with access permissions (did not use chmod for anything so far), or something else.

Would appreciate any further ideas or suggestions, or convincing arguments to use iCloud. So far, seems as though I have seen various comments on problems with it.

Thanks,
Simon

Address book not syncing via Dropbox

Me too. Not using Calendar, only Address Book, on Lion. Worked perfectly for a few days (between 2 Leopard computers, one Lion, iPhone). Then the Lion address book turned up completely empty, and the 2 Leopard computers aren't syncing anymore. Can't test the iPhone as it only works when I'm away from shop/home. Sure hope someone has a cure for this!
