I'm giving my old imac 17" Model M8812 (2002) to the local library. I was trashing my personal stuff and when finished noticed i don't have the Macs SYSTEM PREFERENCES.app anymore. No clue how I managed to trash it, it's not in the Applications, and it doesn't appear when searching for it.When I click on the Apple, then System Preferences nothing appears. I restarted the Mac and still not there.

Any idea how to get it back, the trash was emptied??

You should insert the Recovery CD then reinstall the OS X.
