iPad Can you charge the regular sized iPad on Macbook Air?

I only have an iPad mini at the moment and 11" MBA. I am able to charge my ipad mini through my MBA. I was just wondering if I can do the same with the regular sized ipad, as im actually planning to switch to ipad 5 once its released
