I just reloaded OSX and just got around to setting up iTunes. I previously used my external drive for my iTunes library. Now I have set my iTunes media location to the same folder on my external as before. It does not recognize my music, only movies and tv shows. Have I missed a step?

One of the pains of having your iTunes database files not in the same parent folder and your iTunes media...

If you have a backup of your old iTunes folder which has all of the database files in then replace the whole folder.

I have all the iTunes files in the same parent folder as itunes media on my NAS. i just have to point a new itunes installation to it if needed. Doing it this way you never have broken links!
