Bootcamp trouble

Right. So I've moved from Windows (after 12/13 years) to a Mac. I'm loving it all. Some of the applications that I used to run (some very power intensive) aren't mac compatible.
Also, when my family borrow my mac (when we are on holiday and such) they get really confused (they're all PC).

So, I think bootcamp is better than virtualization.

I have my Windows 7 (Ultimate) on a 16GB thumb/usb flash drive. The WindowsSupport Drivers are also on it (that's right, yeah?). I've created a partition (35GB). After the partition is created Mac restarts and goes to a "No bootable drive window". I fixed this by pressing and holding the alt/option key on start-up.

Where do I go from here to install windows?

I've removed and added the partition multiple times, but it doesn't work.

What version of Mac OS, what BootCamp version, and are they compatible with Windows 7 and/or each other?

I used BootCamp for a couple of years. I now use Parallels and won't look back.
