Then we probably only have had 222 or so people banned in the last ten years, since this member, the last to register as of now, is member number 801068 out of 800,846.
Back when the memberlist was still accessible, I could see a lot of banned accounts on there, many with zero posts (spammers probably) and many that have had 1,000s or 10,000s of posts.

Banned members do count toward the total number. The reason for the few-hundred difference between current member count and the newest member ID comes from accounts that were merged. Obviously each of the two accounts had its own member ID number, but when they get merged they count as only one member by the counter.
As you can tell, that's a pretty rare phenomenon.

800,000 members... Funny, how the FAQ has only received 12 hits from all those members. True stat. This link proves it.

I'd make a big wager that there's a very substantial portion of the website's visitors that don't even have an account, to heck with registering and having 10 posts...
Sure, posting is a proxy for involvement in the community, but there are legions that quietly look for - and find - what they need, and come back on a regular basis as well. Regardless, 800k is quite a decent accomplishment. |

We'd hate to shortchange any forum member by not celebrating their birthday properly. Which means that with 800,000 forum members we now have to eat an average of over 2100 pieces of birthday cake per day. These forums are contributing to worldwide obesity.

So many members with 0-10 posts? Why have an account? To thumb up comments?

To ask a question. If someone has a problem with their Mac/iDevice then they'll create a MR account, make a thread about their problem, then after someone has helped them solve it they're off. Some of them might stick around & become active users, but the vast majority leave as soon as their problem is solved.
