I purchased my Macbook off kijiji for 650$. It's a late 08 Unibody and so far so good, I examined it very well before purchasing then I went about upgrading it with a new SSD, HDD and another 4GB of ram (Another 4GB on the way!)
Though it's only a 2ghz Duo it handles all the software perfectly, CS6 collection, Office, music programs, browser all at the same time running at between 45-70C, which is pretty cool for MacBooks!.
Good used products are out there, just be careful and listen to you gut.
