Was going through some old photos, and found some cars that were in my family back in the 70's when I was growing up, made me feel nostalgic so thought Id see what others had back than.

My family had the following:

1) 1972 Plymouth Fury III 4 dour (parents)
2) Late 70s (maybe early 80s) Chrysler Cordoba (with rich Corinthian leather) -parents
3) 67 Mustang (brother)
4) Desoto (brother)
5) Barracuda

Even though I wasn't born yet in the 1970s, from what I understand from old photos they had an early 70s Chevy Vega when my mom and dad got married, a mid 70s Cougar, by the time they had my older brother and sister, then a '78 Olds Cutlass Wagon by the time they had me. Which I actually do remember. My pop had an Austin Mini before he got married; which was the only relatively cool car he ever owned, lol.

I was only born in '78 so I'm not sure what my parents had for most of the '70s. I do know that in '79 they drove all through Europe for the summer (so I celebrated my first birthday in Italy) in a bright yellow 2CV. Probably a bit like this:

Not Dad's actual cars, they were both metallic green.

Mom's first car was a 64.5 Mustang with a 289. Had a bf at the time who was a body man who owned a light blue '66 or '67 GTO convertible they used to cruise around the lakes, so he stripped the Mustang down and sprayed it maroon, and threw on then-appropriate "baby moons and beauty rings". My mom drove that for a few years until a drunk Tboned her on the driver's side in a Lincoln Continental in 1976. Spent time learning how to walk again, and the insurance came through with more than enough of a settlement at the time to strut on to the showroom floor and pick up a silver/black '77 Camaro brand new, her first new car. Still had it til I was about 3, I remember it kinda well. In the interim until the insurance money came through, she had a dark green '74 Mustang II Mach I which she said was a horrible pile even though it was only two years old.

Meanwhile, my dad had a Grabber Blue '70 Boss 302. If only he would've kept it...

My dad got company cars, but the two I remember him having were a 73 Pontiac Catalina with the police interceptor package. (The company let him pick out his cars and he was friends with the GM dealership owner). He later got a tank in the 76 Oldsmobile Delta 88. The last 70s car was a 79 Ford LTD, which ended up being a total POS. He went back to Olds after that.

My mom had this mid 70s Chevy Caprice. Since we had a huge travel trailer to pull around, she ended up with a 79 Ford full size van. That thing was huge. My brother and I would run around and play in the open area in the back. OH the horror of not being completely strapped down in kiddie seats!

Great car, lots of character, and almost indestructible.

Really? How extraordinary....

Actually, from childhood, I remember most of the GB cars posted on this thread - a true blast from the past. The Wolseley was a very spacious car - I remember the parents of school friends had one......

In the 1970s, my Dad firstly, had an Opel Kadett; (all his 60s cars had been Mini minors of some description, and earlier still, he had a Morris Minor).
This was followed by an (Hillman) Avenger (a fairly spacious British car which was the first four door car we had; I remember my Mum disliked driving it.)

After the Avenger, he bought a Datsun, as Nissan were called at the time, a nifty car. Japanese cars were just beginning to be seen on European roads by the mid 1970s.

The Nissan was followed by a Mazda 323, for a year or two, which was followed, just at the end of the decade by a Renault 18, which rather I liked.

Texas, unfortunately.
My parents were only teenagers themselves in the 70's and just starting to drive, so I couldn't tell you much. I recall my dad said his first car was a 1950-something Chevy Delray, that was bright yellow. He told me the engine went right after he got it, and he worked three jobs one summer to save up for a new one. :)

My mom told me once she drove a white Datsun car for a few years - until the parking brake failed one day and it rolled backwards into a lake. :p Her parents kept it on their property until just a few years back all that time. Looked something like this, IIRC
