i think i'm flipping on this. i rebought a discounted smart cover once i got the hardshell back case, and the issues i had with it (instability, primarily) were alleviated by the support provided by the back case.

Had this "smart" cover (red) on for less than half a day and it was an absolute turd in terms of design, fit, and quality. I've had equally terrible eBay covers that cost me less than $5 w/shipping.
Avoid. |

I never liked the Smart Cover for my ipad2 or Mini.
I prefer, for both, CaseCrown covers from Amazon. |

Weird lines on back of Mini from Smart Cover
Is anyone getting weird lines consistent with the Smart Cover creases on the back of the mini when you found the cover behind? I have a slate black mini and noticed this.

Got this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009JRMBVG/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 and it's quite nice. Much better, IMHO, than the Apple smart cover. Thanks to BrianSoCal for the recommendation.
