Background playback not working

Hey guys so I'm trying to use background playback on jasmine and the YouTube website, both of which I remember working. Is it just me or did YouTube/google remove background playback? Because when I double click home and press play, nothing happens.

Basically it's not working anymore in 6.1. McTube is the only app that seems to work because they're using some private API.

I got youtube to play with the screen off. Just play the video, lock the screen, then double tap the home button and tap the play button. The downside is this only works with the screen off, when it's on, the play button doesn't function.
