iPhone 5s 32 GB

I just switched from AT&T to T-Mobile a week ago. Overall pretty happy so far! The main thing I notice is a lot of bouncing, when indoors at home and work, between 4-5 "dots" of 4G and 1-2 "dots" of LTE. I think this is leading to more battery drain than I recall when I had AT&T (same exact unlocked iPhone 5s). Is it better to turn LTE off when indoors?
When outdoors or testing via SpeedTest and ROOTMetrics at a stoplight or something, the LTE is simply amazing when I have 3-5 "dots"! My best is 38 down and 16 up.
Here are a couple of tests I just ran (at my house, exact same location at my desk). The 4G was with the LTE off in the iPhone settings. The LTE was with it toggled on. In this case, it seems that the 5 dots of 4G was better than the 1 dot of LTE.
That's the way it is in my apartment.
On "4G" I get 5 bars and around 23 down. On LTE I get 3 bars and around 8 mbps down.
